UFC 102 was highlighted by a number of entertaining knockout victories on both the main fight card and the preliminary fight card. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira made a statement with his impressive victory over Randy Couture and Nate Marquardt solidified his case for number one contender for the middleweight title with his quick work of the former undefeated middleweight Demian Maia.
UFC 102 Preliminary Fight Card
The preliminary card for UFC 102 started off with a pair of hard fought battles that resulted in split decision victories for both Marcus Aurelio and Mark Munoz. The fireworks really went off in the third fight of the night between Todd Duffee and Tim Hague. If you blinked, you might have missed the fight, as Duffee knocked Hague out just 7 seconds into their bout. The knock out set a new UFC record for the fastest knockout in history. The preliminary card was rounded out with a pair of entertaining fights that both resulted in TKO victories for Gabriel Gonzaga and Aaron Simpson.

UFC 102 Main Fight Card
The main fight card for UFC 102 was jam packed with great match ups and even better results. The first fight of the main card saw Brandon Vera prove himself to be a regular among the big name light heavyweight UFC fighters as he defeated Krzsztof Soszynski by unanimous decision. In his first ever UFC fight, up and coming Middleweight Jake Rosholt defeated UFC veteran Chris Leben with an arm triangle choke submission half way through the third round, solidifying his stay in the UFC. In the next fight of the main card, middleweight contender Nate Marquardt took on the undefeated middleweight contender Demian Maia in a fight for a crack at the UFC middleweight championship belt and Anderson Silva. Many people believed that this would be a close fight but in actuality it wasn’t at all, as Nate Marquardt came out swinging and won the fight in just 21 seconds with a vicious KO punch that put Maia to the mat and out cold. This entertaining knockout victory solidified Marquardt’s spot as the number one contender to Anderson Silva’s Middleweight title belt.
Thiago Silva proved to MMA fans once again that he is for real, as he dominated Keith Jardine en route to a a KO victory over the Dean of Mean. Silva caught Jardine with a left hook that sent him to the mat, Silva followed up with a barrage of punches that eventually knocked Jardine out at 1:35 of the first round. Next up was the much anticipated main event where Randy Couture met Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a heavyweight bout. Many fans were hoping to see Randy Couture bounce back after his loss to Brock Lesnar, but that wouldn’t be the case for Couture at UFC 102. The fight was fairly even throughout the three rounds but Nogueira was able to get the upper hand and as a result, won the fight after it went the distance. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 and declared Nogueira the winner by unanimous decision.
Although UFC 102 did not have any title fights on the main card, it still proved to be a very entertaining night with some very impressive knock out victories. Be sure to check back with us for a preview of UFC 103 and UFC Fight Night 19.
