Patrick Cote

Patrick ‘The Predator’ Cote – MMA Profile

Patrick Cote, at age 28, has built a promising record of 13 wins and 4 losses. He has fought in several organizations including TKO, KOTC, and the UFC. His first taste of hand to hand combat came while he served in the Canadian army. It was enough to ignite his passion, but not enough to sate his curiosity. While he was enlisted, he began learning martial arts. Eventually, Cote started developing his skills in other fighting styles such as boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Cote began fighting professional MMA bouts in 2002 and attracted immediate attention with a 5-fight winning streak. He was invited to battle notable MMA fighter Tito Ortiz in UFC 50. Though he lost the bout, he earned respect for not allowing Ortiz to submit him or knock him out. Cote returned to fight in TKO and other organizations. And while he was invited to participate in UFC 52 and a UFC Ultimate Fight Night, victory in that organization continued to elude him.

Despite his lack of success in the UFC, Cote won the KOTC Light Heavyweight Championship and the MFC World Middleweight Championship in 2006. In 2007, he defeated Jason Day to become the TKO middleweight champion in 2007. His victories outside the UFC seemed to reinvigorate him and he has returned to defeat his last 4 UFC opponents in the Octagon.

Cote favors a number of techniques in the cage. His penchant for a 1-punch knockout has caught a number of fighters by surprise. But, striking isn’t his only skill. He has developed a skilled Kimura submission hold as well as a refined rear naked choke. Today, Cote finds inspiration in the tenacity and style demonstrated by his 2 heroes, veteran MMA fighter Randy Couture and Muhammad Ali.

Even though his success in the UFC came only after a few stumbles, his victories have been achieved over tough opponents such as Scott Smith, Kendall Grove, and Ricardo Almeida. His next scheduled UFC bout will be against Anderson Silva as he attempts to wrest the Middleweight Championship title from Silva’s grasp. With his current streak, anything is possible.
