Carlos ‘Natural Born Killer’ Condit – MMA Profile

With a record of 23 wins and 4 losses, Carlos Condit has already built an exciting MMA resume in his relatively young 24 years. Nicknamed the “Natural Born Killer,” Condit fights in the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) organization, where he currently holds the title of welterweight champion. He climbed into the cage for his first professional MMA fight at 18 and defeated Nick Roscorla with a rear naked choke. It was the first of an 8-bout winning streak that helped him launch his MMA career.

Condit began training in jujutsu and kickboxing at age 15, developing a mastery of both striking and grappling techniques. He was instantly drawn to wrestling in high school due to its emphasis on individual fighting prowess. By the time he had graduated high school, he had become a well-rounded fighter who was physically and mentally prepared for the Octagon.

In the beginning, Condit was forced to work odd jobs while pursuing an MMA career. He worked as a bouncer and a lifeguard in order to earn an income while training. For awhile, he seemed to be unbeatable, racking up 8 consecutive wins. However, his streak was broken when Carlo Prater submitted him in Fightworld 2 in 2004. Undaunted, Condit went on to win his next 4 fights before being submitted by Satoru Kitaoka at Pancrase: Spiral 8 in 2005.

The next 13 fights would only be marred by 2 losses (1 by decision). He defeated notable MMA fighters such as Koji Oishi, John Alessio, and Brock Larson. Finally, in early 2008, he avenged himself against Prater, submitting him with a guillotine choke in the first round.

Today, Condit is considered one of the best welterweight fighters in the world. With 9 knockouts and 13 submissions, he is equally adept at striking and grappling. Though he prefers to end a fight with a devastating knee to the jaw, he is just as happy to submit his opponents through armbars, Kimuras, and chokes. Condit seems to relish the distinction of being at the top of his class and welcomes the wave of fighters who want to challenge him. His record suggests that he’s up to the task.
