The MaxFightsDM Maximum Glory Fighting Championship has enlisted two popular Iowa media outlets for the event - CityView and TakeDown Radio:

CityView, Central Iowa’s free independent weekly newspaper, is the official media sponsor of Maximum Glory and will produce a custom section on the event, its fighters, and the sport of MMA. Publishing for 16 years, Cityview is read by over 70,000 people each week.

• “MMA is increasingly growing in mass appeal and we feel it has reached the point where many of our diverse group of readers are interested. Iowa has lead that trend,” stated CityView publisher Shane Goodman.

MaxFightsDM/Glory FC is also partnering with Take Down Radio to promote Maximum Glory at the Jordan Creek 20/Century Theatres during the showing of UFC 115 on Saturday, June 12th. People attending the UFC 115 big screen, high definition event will be able to enter to win prizes, including FREE tickets to Maximum Glory.

• The UFC 115 main event puts UFC Hall of Famer Chuck “The Ice Man” Liddell against former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich “Ace” Franklin. The event begins at 9PM. Two of the preliminary bouts - the welterweights Amir Sadollah (US) and Dong Hyun Kim (South Korea), and the lightweights Efrain Escudero (Mexico) and Dan Lauzon (US) - will be broadcast live on Spike TV one hour prior to the full broadcast of UFC 114 on pay-per-view.

Preceding this event is UFC 113 on May 8 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, featuring Lyoto Machida and Mauricio "Shogun 2" Rua. Following this event is UFC 115 on June 12 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, featuring Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin.

Also taking place at that same time is the UFC Fan Expo at the Mandalay Bay Convention Centre.

Stephan Bonnar and Krzysztof Soszynski are being targetted to fight one another at the event. And two middleweight fighters have just recently been added to the main fight card for UFC 116, though they’re not going to be fighting each other, and neither one of them has a named opponent yet—those being Kendall Grove and, most recently added, Goran Reljic.

Reljic, 8-1 incidentally, will be one to watch that night at the MGG Grand Garden Arena in Vegas because he’s only just come back after a 20-month sidelining for recovery from surgery after an injury, and in his return fight at February’s UFC 110 he suffered a humiliating defeat by judge’s unanimous decision against him.

Fourth of July weekend is sure to be blast with UFC 116 on July 3. Coming up before all that action though is UFC 114, taking place on Memorial Day weekend, May 29 specifically, as part of the UFC Fan Expo 2010, and to be held at the same venue as UFC 116, the MGM Grand Garden Arena. That event features two co-main events: Quinton “Rampgae” Jackson vs. Rashad Evans, and Forrest Griffin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. UFC 115 after that takes place on June 12 in Vancouver and features two co-main events too: Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin, and Mirko Cro Cop vs. Pat Barry.

Josh Neer is clearly one of the most successful and popular fighters that has come out of Des Moines, IA. The ten time UFC vet's career started at the legendary Toad Holler in 2001 where he built an 89-1 amateur record before going pro, then went on to defeat the likes of Joe Stevenson and Mac Danzig in the UFC. Neer will face Omaha's heavy-handed  Matt Delanoit at Ballroom Brawl IV. Neer requested an opponent that is willing to stand and trade with him, and we think Delanoit's experience and record provide the perfect match.

In the evening's other co-main event, Brazilian native Hermes Franca will face off against Iowa's own Eric Wisely for the MaxFightsDM interim lightweight belt. Franca's UFC experience includes wins over the likes of Spencer Fisher, Jamie Varner, and Nate Diaz, and ultimately earning a shot at the world title against Sean Sherk. Franca is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jui Jitsu as well as the 2009 World No Gi Jiu Jitsu Grappling champion. Wisely is coming off a recent win over WEC vet Scott McAfee, and to top it off all of Wisely's losses have been by decision.

Even Lyoto Machida thought he may have lost his Light Heavyweight title to Mauricio Shogun Rua at UFC 104 on Saturday night in the Mandalay Bay events center in Las Angeles.  Machida hung his head as if he were anticipating defeat when the official results were announced, and the unanimous decision was awarded to the Dragon. The crowd booed the decision and immediately following the announcement, UFC President Dana White said that he thought that Shogun should have won the decision, and that Shogun had won the 1st, 4th, and 5th rounds to give him the win. Everyone was a little surprised to hear the results but none the less, Lyoto successfully defended his UFC Light Heavyweight title against Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua.

While Machida fought hard for 5-five minute championship rounds and came out victorious, Shogun proved to be quite the test, as he stayed on the attack, was more aggressive, and landed more shots than Lyoto through out the 5 rounds. The Muay striking of Rua was very effective in countering the Karate striking from Machida. It was a great display of the two striking styles and well faught 5 rounds out of both fighters.

Cain Velasquez TKOs Ben Rothwell

In the featured heavyweight fight, undefeated up and comer Cain Velaquez defeated IFL veteran Ben Rothwell by TKO at the :58 mark of round 2. The stoppage added more controversy at UFC 104, as many believed that the fight was stopped too early by referee Steve Mazzagotti. Velasquez abused Rothwell from the very beginning of the first round with takedowns, ground and pound, and then standing up exchanging blows. The second round started the same with Velasquez unloading on Rothwell with strikes to the face, allowing him to pin Rothwell's left arm against the cage and pound Rothwell at will. Ben Rothwell freed his arm and was getting to his feet when ref Mazzagotti made a poor decision to call the fight. Regardless, it was a great performance by Cain Velasquez, who remains undefeated at 7-0 and puts him in contention for the heavyweight title.

Joe Stevenson Beats Down Spencer Fisher

In the featured Lightweight bout, Joe Stevenson scored a submission due to elbow strikes victory over Spencer Fisher in the fourth minute of round 2. The first round was fairly even as both fighters felt each other out and, despite a little cut on Fisher, no real damage was done to either fighter. The second round was all Stevenson. He connects with a hard right hand and then took Spencer Fisher to the mat and pinned him against the caged. After gaining half mount, Stevenson started to land a barrage of elbows and punches that went unanswered and opened up Fisher's face when referee Herb Dean stepped in to bring a stoppage to the fight.

Tibau Dominates In Decision Win

Brazilian Gleison Tibau showed off his wrestling skills as he repeatedly took his opponent, Josh Neer, to the ground but was unable to make anything of it. In round 1, Gleison controlled Neer from the beginning by scoring take down after take down but Neer managed to escape to his feet every time. Both Rounds 2 and 3 saw much of the same and was very uneventful.  Gleison continued to take down Neer but never made anything of it, while Neer was unable to stop the take down and was uneffective on the attack. The crowd booed both fighters after the fight.

Sonnen Wrestles To Win Over Okami

In other UFC 104 fights, Yushin Okami squared off with Chael Sonnen in a middleweight bout. As a great wrestler, Sonnen takes control of the fight by taking Okami down at will and allows him to set up his striking, as Okami was concentrated on stopping the take down. Okami was unable to create an counter attack against Sonnen's take down and striking, allowing Sonnen to stay aggressive and on the attack the whole fight.  Sonnen dominated in his unanimous decision victory over Okami.

Anthony Johnson Makes Quick Work of Yoshida

In a fight that was originally set for welterweight 170 lbs, Anthony Johnson failed to make the weight so the bout was fought at a catch weight of 176 lbs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida did not know what was in store for him. From the very beginning of Round 1, Anthony Johnson abused Yoshida with countless strikes to the face, and ended the fight via TKO due to punches just 41 seconds into the round. Up and comer Johnson improves his MMA record to 8-2 and should be in line for a tougher opponent, while Yoshida drops to 11-4 and has lost 2 of his last 3 fights.

UFC 104: Shogun Eyes Machida's Belt

The undefeated Lyoto Machida will put his UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship Belt on the line when he faces Mauricio Rua at UFC 104 on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Staples Center in Las Angeles. Challenger Mauricio Shogun Rua looks to upset the undefeated Machida and claim his Light Heavyweight title in the main event fight of the night. This marks Lyoto's first title defense since he made quick work of Rashad Evans at UFC 98, and his challenger, Shogun Rua, is coming off two electrifying knock out victories over Chuck Liddell and Mark Coleman. The main event should be an entertaining fight with great knock out potential.

In another featured fight, two heavyweight knock out artists will square off to see who will be in title contention for Brock Lesnar's Heavyweight Title. The undefeated up and comer Cain Velasquez looks to knock out the IFL veteran Ben Rothwell in a fight that is sure to see fireworks. Velasquez could earn the next title shot with a victory over Rothwell.

UFC 104 will also feature two great Lightweight matches as Gleison Tibau faces Josh Neer and Joe Stevenson faces Spencer Fisher.  In the first of the two light weight matchups, Joe Stevenson looks to rebound in the Lightweight division after losing 2 of his last 3 fights against Spencer Fisher, who is coming off a 3 fight win streak. This should be the closest matchup of the night and could easily win fight of the night honors. On Friday, November 13, Max Fights DM will host Ballroom Brawl III at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines, IA. The night's fight card will feature local, national, and international talent - including TV personalities, one of women's most popular fighters, and a main event determining the winner of the MaxFightsDM Lightweight Belt.

Local favorite,Ted Worthington, will face Rob Roy. Worthington won the Polanti Watches Fighter of the Night Award at the previous Ballroom Brawl with an arm bar in the final moments of the first round, and also won against Jason Medina in the first MaxFightsDM event. Wisconsin's Rob Roy has occured in a Tapout TV episode, and fought numerous promotions across the country. Rob is known for his WEC bouts against Charlie Kohler and WEC World Champion Jamie Varner.

IFL veteran and owner of three world kickboxing titles, Victor "Superman" Moreno, will be fighting John Cronk. As a Des Moines native, Moreno has built a solid reputation as an MMA fighter and specifically suggested a solid opponent to be matched up against in Ballroom Brawl III. No doubt, Max Fights DM delivered with Denver native John Cronk, who's now based in Sioux City. Cronk has racked up several King of the Cage events, and his best known opponents include Shonie Carter, Matt Hughes, and Diego Sanchez.

As women's MMA is on the rise, MaxFightsDM is hosting the 1st women's MMA bout in three years. Boxer and MMA fighter, Emily Klinefelter , will face Brittany Dale in the 130 pound class. Klinefelter holds 13 national boxing titles and two Gold Medals from the Pan Am Games in Brazil. In all, she's racked up an impressive 5-0 MMA record, and 6-0 pro boxing record. Opponent, Brittany Dale is an up and coming fighter known for her boxing skills, and is ready to prove her position in the sport of MMA as well. Her brother, Willie Dale is a member of the Miletich Fighting Systems camp, and will also be included on the Ballroom Brawl III fight card facing Matt Dominguez.

NEWS UPDATE!

10/28/09 - The reason for the ban on the Full Tilt Sponsorship has been revealed by our sources. Those of you who thought that Full Tilt lost its sponsorship of the UFC due to money reasons or Absolute Poker taking over as the sponsor are all misinformed. The reason that the UFC dropped the Fult Tilt sponsor is because the UFC launched its own poker room to compete with Full Tilt and Absolute Poker. The poker room is called UFC Poker and is in the early stages of development. As of right now the UFC poker room is only played for prizes, UFC gear, tickets, and many other prizes. The UFC poker is not yet a play for money poker room but could be in the near future. Zuffa and UFC President Dana White are making an attempt to enter the poker playing market with this new poker room and feel they can eventually compete with Full Tilt poker, Absolute Poker and the other online poker rooms available today. Full Tilt poker became a sponsor of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, more commonly known as the UFC, at the UFC 93 fight event, and sponsored not only the Octogon but also the fighters with all of the logos that were added to all of the MMA fighter's shorts. I just came across some articles online that explained that Zuffa and UFC President Dana White had banned Full Tilt Poker from sponsoring UFC events. I was very intrigued by this because every time I watch a UFC event, I distinctly remember seeing the Full Tilt logo on both the fighter's gear and at the center of the Octogon. It has been revealed in March of 2009 that the UFC sent out an email to manager's that told them that Full Tilt poker would not be sponsoring UFC events any longer.  It is unknown whether this ban is permanent or temporary.

So what is the reason for the UFC and Dana white to completely nix Full Tilt from being a sponsor? There may be more than one explanation.

Rumors have it that Full Tilt Poker might have been dropped for Ultimate Bet, the number one competitor for Full Tilt Poker. Absolute Poker, which is owned by Ultimate Bet, is said to be in negotiations with the UFC to become the new 2009 sponsor for the UFC fighting events. Why Dana White would want Absolute Poker to be a main sponsor for the UFC after Absolute Poker was caught in a huge cheating scandal is still unknown.

It has also been rumored that the UFC was under a lot of pressure from Spike TV, the channel that airs all of the UFC hosted events, to cut the ties with Full Tilt Poker. Spike TV didn't allow for the Full Tilt sponsor of the UFC 95 event that aired on Spike TV and most likely has pushed for UFC to rid themselves of the Full Tilt Sponsor. This is too bad because it brought in a lot of sponsorship money to the fighters, who really get screwed by the UFC as well.

• What does this mean for fans and fighters?

This sucks for fighters in the UFC, as they get paid good money from the Full Tilt Sponsorships. Full Tilt is said to be one of the highest paying fighter sponsors available in the UFC so taking their sponsorship away would be devastating to the UFC fighters.

• Is this Rumor For Real?

What makes me unsure about the UFC banning Full Tilt Sponsorship is that the UFC's website, ufc.com, had not taken banners and advertisements for Full Tilt for some time. They would have taken down all banners and ads for the Full Tilt sponsor right away if they entirely banned them. Full Tilt banners and ads are now down off the website, does this mean that Full Tilt is no longer a sponsor? Is this Rumor for real?
